5 Types Of Burglars To Look Out For

There are five basic types of burglars: Opportunity Smashers Prowlers and Targeted and Complete Burglars. The best way to prevent theft whether from any type of Burglar is to have a Security System and to use it.
Opportunity Burglars
Opportunist thieves will always check for that easy quick and petty weak entry point. By leaving your door unlocked or your window open they are guaranteed to capitalize on your mistake when you become forgetful. By law this is considered a second degree crime because it’s not premeditated. An opportunity burglar is 9 times out of 10 not familiar with what they will burglarize beforehand. Like a hyena they are just there to find an easy opportunity. Opportunity burglars don’t tend to steal valuable things because they dont know what theyll find until they are inside.

Smashers Burglars
A Smasher or “smash and grab” burglar is even more desperate than an Opportunity Burglar. These are usually your typical drug addict looking for cash or items that can easily be exchanged for cash. A Smash burglary will sometimes be quite humorous because they will steal something like television and leave behind a diamond ring which holds much more value. Smasher Burglars are the majority of thieves you see on “Dumbest Criminals” TV shows. Like a typical burglar a Smasher will usually enter a home or business by breaking through a door or window.

Prowlers Burglars
A Prowler is a more sophisticated professional than your average Smasher or Opportunity Thief. They will have networks of connections to transport their stolen goods through and often apply more research behind planning and organizing a burglary. A Prowler is like the older wiser more mature Opportunity Thief and at one point decides to become more organized in order to maximize their gain from their robbery. Doing their homework requires them to target and study their victims routines habits and schedules leading them to be precise and thorough during a burglary.

Targeted Burglars
These are your pros. Targeted Burglars are specialized in stealing specific valuable items. After living as a Prowler this burglar decides to focus on one thing to the best of his/her ability. They know what they want and will go to extreme measures to figure out how to steal the highlyprized item. These thieves put all their resources to work in order to make sure they cover every aspect of the robbery even as far as researching how long it will take the police to respond to an Alarm. Targeted Burglars are usually members of a larger organization scattered nationwide. Members of these organized crime networks will often steal items one state to be sold in others. Targeted Thiefs will sometimes have an insider connection to someone in the industry of their prized item which means they know the value of their targeted item and most details involving security of that item.

Complete Burglars
A Complete Burglar is similar to a Prowler in their theft methods but they have the professionalism of a Targeted Burglar. When a house is completely vacant after a robbery you know a Complete Burglar was involved. Like Targeted Burglars a Complete Burglar will use their connections to find out important information like if a family is traveling on vacation.
It cannot be emphasized enough that the best way to prevent theft whether from any type of Burglar is to have a Security System and to use it. A Security System is a vital investment to ensure the security of anything important and/or valuable like your home.
